A week split between Thessaloniki and a pilgrimage to Mount Athos, centered around Vatopedi Monastery.
Mt. Athos
The visit to Vatopedi was the main reason for the trip. The monastic rhythm, the silence, and the long services left a strong impression. The boat ride along the peninsula and the strict guest rules made the whole experience feel very separate from normal travel.
Thessaloniki
The city itself has a dense layer of Byzantine history. Walking through the old town and visiting the churches gave good context before heading to the Holy Mountain. Good mix of urban exploration and spiritual travel.
